ConnectLA addresses a broad range of informational needs for underserved, economically disadvantaged communities in the Los Angeles area. Information is easy-to-understand, ethnically relevant and culturally sensitive. This award-winning site, available in English and Spanish, was designed with assistance from inner-city residents to help meet their most important needs - employment, healthcare information and community resources. An affordable housing component, providing centralized information on unit availability, is nearing completion. With funding, CGS will design and add new components on Nutrition & Fitness, Financial Services Education and Youth. CGS has restructured the underlying ConnectLA architecture so that it can now be easily franchised, creating a national network (ConnectingUS) of localized websites that will provide vital jobs, healthcare, housing and other information to low-income individuals, families and communities of color in major cities across the United States. The content and structure are available via franchise to other nonprofits and governmental organizations around the nation. This will provide other communities with their own websites, branded with their own logos, containing their own localized content, yet using ConnectingUS hosting, functionality and, if desired, content. CGS is already receiving preliminary inquiries from communities and partners in other regions to explore this possibility.
