Councilmember Alex Padilla committees

Chair: Rules & Elections Committee

The Rules & Elections Committee hears matters related to the scheduling of ballot measures and other election matters. Issues include campaign practices, Charter amendments, conflicts of interest, the City's lobbyist ordinance, the Code of Ethics, fair political practices, Council district boundaries, Council rules and policies, election practices, voter registration, and elected official salaries. In addition, the Committee oversees joint powers agreements, and handles issues of protocol and matters relating to Sister Cities.

Vice-Chair: Arts, Parks & Aging Committee

The Arts, Parks & Aging Committee oversees matters relating to the Aging Department, Cultural Affairs Department, Cultural Heritage Board, El Pueblo de Los Angeles, Library Department, Recreation and Parks Department, Zoo Department, Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association, Commission on Children, Youth and Families, Department on Disability. Alcoholism; drug abuse; health; needs of the disabled; education, and youth development life style and human needs; communicable diseases, mental health, immigration, charities, senior citizens; volunteers; architectural review and cultural monuments; the Arts and their funding, including the expenditures from the Arts Trust Fund; and the designation and restoration of cultural or historic buildings.

Member: Housing, Community, and Economic Development.

The Housing, Community, and Economic Development Committee oversees matters related to the Community Development Department, Housing Authority, Housing Department, including rent control, Housing Appeals Board. The committee also oversees all housing matters including grants, review or concurrent review of bonds, and subsidies for housing from all sources; rent control; the homeless; all residential code enforcement except for new construction; slum housing abatement and the Rent Escrow Account Program (REAP); grants from all sources that are administered by the departments or offices assigned to this committee. In addition, the committee is responsible for oversight matters related to the Community Redevelopment Agency, Mayor's Office of Economic Development, Convention Center and the Greater Los Angeles Visitors and Convention Bureau and the funds for those purposes, Community Development Bank, economic development, privately owned public utilities, conventions, enterprise zones, and business associations such as chambers of commerce.

 

Vice-Chair: Ad Hoc Stadium Committee

The Ad Hoc Stadium Committee was established to evaluate, assess, review and make decisions on all matters concerning professional sports stadiums in the City of Los Angeles.
